@Tom
What is this "outside" of which you speak?

All I ever see around me is office walls. "Outside" consists of the 25 freezing seconds it takes me to get from my front door into my car before I drive off to work.

So I even have trouble these days with single-player games. The time-commitment of most PC games is getting harder and harder to make. And I don't even have a wife and kids!

No matter how "adult" games like GTA like to act, the fact is that most adults don't have the time to play them, alas and alack.

Looks very cool, but if you are a casual game player like myself and 40+ ish in age, you will get your butt handed to you buy those kids online. We get out and do things outside, kids these days never leave their computers, so they are way too good at these games for us "old farts" to have any fun.

Long live Space Invaders and Atari Asteroids! :-D

I think somebody broke the HTML for this page by including lines of embedding code or something. In the middle of comment #91, the comments jump to the top of the column on the right normally used for links and things like "About Bad Astronomy", etc. (I'm using FF 3.0.11 to view it).

I guess developers saw the huge pile of money Blizzard is making with World of Warcraft and now prefer to create more MMORPGs than make good sequels.

An online component gets shoehorned into everything these days, even games where it makes little sense. Sadly, you can rattle off what it will be without knowing anything else about the game: deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag, defend the fort, and endless minor variations of the same old thing. I don't think it's possible to have a deep, collective online experience. Too many people would have to be too coordinated to ever make it work. Real life just intrudes too much.

That's what drives me nuts about games with widely separated save points. I'm sure the developers have some grand unified theory about challenge and gameplay and presentation that made sense when they were all high on weed, but I just don't give a hoot. Sometimes it's 1 am and I want to go to bed without losing an hour of game progress, or the phone rings and I need to go- now!
