My Comic Con schedule

By Phil Plait | July 22, 2009 2:13 pm

As you read this, I’ll be heading off to Comic Con in San Diego! I’m very excited about this, because I get to hang out with old friends, which is cool even if it means I have to work and moderate some panels.

People have been asking what I’m doing when I’m there, so below is my sorta/kinda schedule. The two panels and the book signing are for sure, but the other stuff is tentative.

Thursday

4:30 I’m hoping to drop by the IDW booth to soak up some Brea Grant.

6:00 – 7:00 I’ll be moderating the Discover Magazine-sponsored Science of Science Fiction panel in Room 6DE.

Friday

2:00 The fabulous Jessica Stover has invited folks to meet her near "the left-most entrance to the exhibit hall" which is a little vague, but she is fabulous, so I’ll give it a shot.

6:00 – 6:50 I’ll be signing my book Death from the Skies! at the Mysterious Galaxy booth (#1119). Here’s your chance to get an autographed copy of a book I have hardly ever said anything about.

Saturday

7:15 – 8:15 I’m moderating the Mythbusters panel woohooyeah! That’s in Room 6BCF, and even though it seats 2000 you might wanna get there early. Adam™ and Jamie are doing autographs earlier that day at 11:30 – 1:30, and Grant/Tory are from 4-5:30, both in the Sails Pavilion at table AA2. I’ll drop by to heckle them, no doubt. And maybe to fawn a wee bit too.

Sunday

Nothing planned, but lots of Torchwood and Doctor Who stuff going on. That’s the place to look for me.

No specific day, just whenever I can:

If I get a chance, I’ll be looking around for the Rifftrax guys, too, and there may be a tweetup or two. Follow TorgosPizza for more details.

Speaking of which, I’ll be livetweeting as much as I can. If you’re not following me on Twitter, then whassamattayou?

I hope to see y’all there!

  1. You wrote a book?

  2. Lawrence

LOL! Hey Phil – are you ever going to get around to the East Coast Comic-Con?

I have to admit I that don’t get the whole comic-book-science-skeptic connection. Or how the comic con thing grew so big. How did comics become so popular with people in the science/skeptic world? The scientists I have closely worked with don’t seem to share the affliction, although I can think of one or two engineering types who were comic fans.

I suppose the connection must be a science fiction thing, but the connection still amazes me.

I’ll have you know that my posting this was not intended to reveal my deep personal envy of all the cool science/skeptic goings on there …

    haha. Have a great time!

  5. Great. You’ll be missing out on the ever so drama stirred Futurama panel on Saturday (13:00, I think in Ballroom 20). With all this stuff about recasting and whatnot, you’d expect the fans to be rioting.

Not to worry, Phil, you’ll probably see some fans chasing a FOX/20th Century Fox executive or two.

  6. Sili

Try looking up Kris Straub if you get a chance.

I’m not sure what’s going on with Melonpool these days, but I think you’d enjoy geeking out with Steve Troop, if he’s around. (He’s be the one wit a hand up the bum of an antennaed alien, if he is.)

  7. Don’t worry: If my incredible map .jpg fails you, then just follow the glow of awesomesauce.

And if that fails, just text me.

    No wimps!

As someone who works for IDW and follows your blog pretty regularly I hope to run into you at the booth. Would be awesome.

  9. Someday I will make it Comic Con and/or Dragon*Con. Someday.

Btw, Jessica — the map is full of awesome!

  10. Thanks, Jewel! I worked so hard on that map, as you can tell: Took me hours and hours and then I took a break to run out and purchase more hot pink paint and after I returned it took me two more hours.

btw Phil my trackbacks are full of your blog. Dag yo, you’ve got readers! And hey some of them are Wingmen!

  11. YOU GET TO MEET THE MYTHBUSTERS!! LUCKY!! I am jealous of you! (Not really…I was just kidding.) I love that show!! (Of course, I’ve still seen better, though it’s like one of my few Favorite Discovery Channel shows!)

If you’re moderating the Mythbusters panel, can you ask Adam why he decided to challenge Jamie’s moustache for facial hair supremacy. The moustache is almost more than my TV can take on it’s own!

  13. The magic website iTricks.com is reporting that Criss Angel may be making an appearance at Comic Con.

What, Phil, you’re not attending the “Twilight” part? ūüėČ

I just read the series and they are like insanely sweet but addictive candy that leaves you with a headache and a bad taste in your mouth afterwards.

  15. Speaking of The Doctor, BBC has some ‘behind the scenes’ shot from the new guy.

    Waiting while link moderates post…..

Phil, I’m delighted you’re able to carry the BA banner to so many events…

…but I notice that The Amaz!ng Randi has canceled his appearance at DragonCon. I hope things are all right. I found him quite the compelling personality and was looking forward to seeing him.

  17. Speaking of Torchwood, I had not seen it before. I have been watching Children of Earth the past 3 nights, and am amazed at how awesome this show is! I love it and am a convert!

  18. So how do we get you to show up at the Tri-Cities WA’s RadCon in February?

  19. Bill

    Hmmm….

Leftmost entrance to dealer’s room? That would be lobby/hall G.

Phil, did you notice that the Mythbusters panel is up against Torchwood/Doctor Who “U.S. Premiers” next door?

I’m still hoping to bump into you there. Don’t worry, I’ll pick you up and dust you off afterwards! (Maybe I’ll come by the book signing and get a copy!)

  20. Phil, have you watched Children of Earth yet?
