Astronomy and skeptical auctions

Just a reminder: the Ebay auctions for Apollo commemorative memorabilia signed by me and for a private music session with George Hrab end tomorrow (Tuesday) around 21:00 GMT! The winners of the auctions can then purchase TAM London tickets, so if you still want to attend the meeting here’s a great chance, and you win nifty stuff, too.

Also, the fantabulous Pamela Gay has two Galileoscopes for auction on Ebay with the boxes autographed by some celebrities at Dragon*Con: one is signed by the cast of Battlestar Galactica and Felicia Day, and the other by the cast of Ghost Hunters International. I know, I know, but as Pamela points out, the goal here is to get everyone to look at the sky, and maybe, just maybe, if someone who’s a fan of the latter gets a ‘scope, they’ll observe the dark sky and turn away from the dark side.

Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny, consume you it will.

There is nothing wrong with Ghost Hunters — if you take it as pure entertainment, which I do. And it’s a lot better than some of mindless droll out there.

My galileoscope finally arrived on Saturday and it really is amazingly good for the price. I plan to use it on days I don’t want to haul the big scope out and for viewing the moon since the large scope is just too bright for me even with a filter.

Boo, I haven’t gotten mine yet.

Sigh. I’m still waiting on mine. Ordered in March, too.

If there’s one signed by the cast of “Enterprise”, the (surviving) Apollo astronauts, the cast of “Mythbusters” (or at least by Adam), or by David Tennant, let me know. :)

“There is nothing wrong with Ghost Hunters — if you take it as pure entertainment, which I do.”

Problem is, a number of people take it as fact. It is that factor that leads people toward the dark side. The message must be spread to take the show as entertainment. Just like those pychic ads say (at least the ones I’ve seen); “For entertainment only”

“And it’s a lot better than some of mindless droll out there.”

I know for a fact it’s not better than “The Universe”! :D

Ghost Hunters International? Why is Phil giving those people any airtime?

I ordered mine at the end of July and it just arrived this past weekend. Haven’t had a chance to break it out yet, though.

So what you’re saying is that antiscience is bad, EXCEPT when you’re trying to raise money. I think there’s a word for that…

What’s next, a signed photo of Jenny to raise money for health issues?

Tried bidding on Hrab, but someone’d already put in a bigger bid. Not that I can afford to go to London at the moment, but I thought I coulda given the tickets away.

Ah well. Bonne chance! to the rest of you.

I’m glad to see someone got their scope! I’ve been trying to get the one I ordered for well over a year, but I get no customer service. It’s really disappointing. Hopefully the money went to a good cause.
