Psychics for hire don’t claim to be able to read minds. They claim that they can contact the dead and foretell somebody’s future.

Being able to contact the dead would sure help with murder investigations. Similarly, being able to foresee the future should at least help them win bets.

I gotta agree with Kai #4 here. Even if psychics did exist, what is there about the supposed power to read others’ minds would make them less likely to ever miss a train?

I don’t know. Unless we’re speaking of a ‘psychic’ who can actually influence other people’s minds (like the train driver), I see no reason that a psychic would miss their train much less than usual. They might know whether it’s going to be on time or not, but they wouldn’t have any more ability than usual to make themselves go faster to catch it.

The obvious answer is yes. But never let that stand in the way of anything. By simple retrofitting the story, they can say “Something told me told that I should mis that train.” And part two of that story does NOT have to involve a train wreck. As so: “If I’d gotten on that train, I’d have never met Billy, who led me to…”

First rule of being a psychic: Never admit to a problem, only to opportunities .
