This episode is standard RTD fare. But at least it is better than series 3 and 4 finale setup in my opinion. Frankly, I think someone needs to restrain him somewhat in his writings.

Dr Who will be far better off once RTD is out of the picture. Kudos to him for bringing Dr Who back to the airwaves, but his approach to the show has worn thin. He did add a welcome dose of continuity to the show (that the original often lacked) and tied the season's episodes together in meaningful ways, but he's always seemed to have believe that frenetic running and explosions are a satisfactory substitute for suspense, character and plot. And I swear that his most important writing tool must be his blender because he tries to cram so much stuff into his episodes, but it never amounts to much more than puree. Whereas Steven Moffat's episodes have been consistently stellar in their imagination and storytelling and they have a real focus to them that makes them classics.

I really wish David Tennant had the chance to get a proper sendoff. I watched End of Time pt.1, and this does not seem to be it. But soon enough we'll have a new Doctor and a fresh start. My New Year's wish is that the New Who really splits from RTD's vision and charts it own path.

The rumor is the Tardis is changing with the new regeneration (exterior only slightly, but interior very substantially). That's great news. Break with the RTD years! And for deity's sake, get rid of the sonic screwdriver once and for all. It's a hackneyed crutch and has been abused far too long on the new show. It's just lazy storytelling and the show will be much better in it's absence.

The Empty Child, The Girl in the Fireplace and Blink are my top 3 of the new series. Only after seeing Blink I found out that Moffat wrote all three (well, four, counting The Doctor Dances as well). Can't wait for RTD to find something else to do and let Moffat do his thing.

It was quite fun.

But I am sure we can all agree that Christopher Eccleston was a much better Dr than this chap.

Well, I guess I'll have to wait. I don't have enough data for torrents.
I thought the most disappointing was the character development in Titanic. Either the Doctor is a bigger tart than I ever was, or he shouldn't attach to his sidekicks so quickly, even if she is a singing budgie.

Blink was the best episode I have ever seen !

Moffat should start by retconning the whole RTD era as the feverish dreams of a self-congratulatory gay Welshman made real with a psychic alien device or something. Captain Jack never existed and Rose Tyler is still the Doctor's sidekick.

Wish they'd got Steven Moffat to write these.

However, great ending to part one. Hopefully it carries on from there.

Oh, wikipedia says this: "The BBC announced in May 2008 that Moffat would be taking over from Russell T Davies as head writer and executive producer for the revived show's fifth series, to be broadcast in 2010."

I didn't know that.

For those who don't know, Steven Moffat wrote the episode with the stone angels that moved when you weren't looking at them (Blink), as well as the two parter in "The Library" with Dr Moon and the little girl.

Reason to be excited whatever happens in the new year episode, imo. I like just about everything Moffat's wriiten for British TV (Coupling, Jekyll, Press Gang).

I'm not sure how I missed "of the" and "ing" in my first post. Weird, I hadn't even been hitting the eggnog at that time...

Anyway, this episode was... eh. The pacing is off, the scenery-chewing is rampant, and nothing gets accomplished except for one KILLER joke at the end and the setup for part two, and that's a shame considering it's an hour long.

Sorry to be the one negative voice on Doctor Who, but while a lot of things happened, it felt a bit emotionally empty to me. A bit like they were telling what to feel rather than making me feel.

Not as bad as LOTTL, but rusty has never been one for subtlety and nuance when flashing neon can do the same job. Good acting by all though.

Excellento...mind you, having to wait till NY's Day for part 2 is a bummer...but at least it puts off the dreadful moment when I have to witness my 10th regeneration... (yes, I am an auld git....was there at the very start in the 60s) - anyway, thanks Phil for the chance to do some xmas-one-up-man-ship...dangadee-dang, dangadee-dang...

The Who ep ended really well... on a high note for sure but I don't understand all this talk of 'superb' and so on. The first 3/4 has no plot what-so-ever and is just various characters interacting with no real sense of purpose.

Typical RTD fare. I hope, given the end of part one, that the second half will stay on that level and not dip back down to where Waters of Mars left me.

Only 28 hours until I get to see it. <gloat> With time-zone differences, I get to see it before Phil does</gloat>. :-)
