Doctor Who Series 5 teaser trailer online

The teaser trailer for the upcoming Doctor Who Series 5 is now online (there’s an ad first for about 30 seconds). Spoilers ahoy, of course!

Well, it’s not subtle! I like the other trailer better, to be honest, but taken as a whole I have to admit the upcoming series looks pretty good. Mind you, I was unhappy when David Tennant took over for Christopher Eccleston, and that turned out pretty well, so I’ll be a good skeptic and make up my mind when the show actually airs. This looks promising!

No word on the actual air date for the first episode, but it’ll be in the spring.

I agree the other one was better. I think that’s because the other one was actual clips from the show with cool music this however was some weirdo made up thing with all the bad guys of the season.

I’ve heard Easter for quite sometime and this version of trailer from bbc seems to confirm it

I guess half the season will be old enemies. *sigh*

I agree Naked Bunny, I never thought I’d say this but I’m getting sick of the Daleks and it’s too soon to bring back the weeping angels. I just hope the Slitheen aren’t in it (My least favorite monster of both the old and new series) They showed up on the season finale of season 3 of Sarah Jane back in November, ugh.

I guess those of us in the UK will have to try –

I do hope we get to see it before BBC America ;-)

I saw a trailer on live BBC1 earlier this evening and it explicitly said Easter.

The very first episode of the new sequence (“Rose” with Chris Ecclestone) was broadcast on Easter Saturday night, and I was attending Eastercon in Hinckley at the time, helping out with the tech crew. We managed to rig up a large projector to the TV tuner, and you really can’t beat watching the regeneration of the whole Dr Who franchise with 400 other SF fans.

Anyway… it looks pretty certain it’s Easter.

” I was unhappy when David Tennant took over for Christopher Eccleston, and that turned out pretty well…”

SO true. I was livid when that happened, but I wound up really liking him.

    Thanks for sharing!

The video you are viewing is not available in your country or location.

Dang stupid restrictive IP laws^H^H^H^H monopoly protection :(

UK site, it’s just not available in my area.

Ah to be an Aussie sucks sometimes.

I was really happy when Tennant took over, because I honestly didn’t like Eccleston as The Doctor. I’m not sold on this one, so far what I have seen makes Smith look decent, but a lot of what we just watched screams twi-hard tween angst-o-drama to me. Her pouty lips, her longing gaze into his eyes in slow motion, and the fact that they are both of ‘that age’.

I’m going to check it out, of course, but I am not even close to being convinced by these teasers; which is kind of the point of a teaser.

@Yeebok, the trailer above is at BBC America’s site. You might find it at bbc.co.uk or their aussie site (if they have one) and be able to watch it there.

I was skeptical about Tennant, too, because I really like Eccleston’s Doctor quite a lot. But, as it turned out I really loved David Tennant’s Doctor, too, so we’ll see where the next one goes. I’ll certainly watch. I’ve liked the trailers I’ve seen, so far, with the first one being my favorite.

I’ve been hearing Easter for the series start. I can’t wait!

I really have high hopes for this series. Not only is Stephen Moffat, the writer of all the nightmare episodes, the producer, but Matt Smith really sold me in his first scene in Tennant’s finale.

Yeah, amazing… The archaic TV license system in the UK means I pay for the BBC websites, but am blocked from seeing the ad… hmm…

To all those in the UK. Shhh. You get to see all the cool stuff first.

I’ll trade you the BBC iPlayer for Fox.com or something.

It should be pointed out that this new trailer isn’t meant to be seen on a computer monitor or even a TV screen. It’s a cinema trailer, filmed in 3D, so it emphasizes spectacle over substance.

Still, I am beginning to accept Smith in the role.

I don’t think I properly realized what an impression “Blink” made on me until I saw the statues blipvert by in that second trailer. Twice. Shudder. And also yay!

I don’t think I properly realized what an impression “Blink” made on me until I saw the statues blipvert by in that second trailer.

The trailer had the same effect on me, except that I fell for Blink right from the start. In fact (Yes, I’m a geek!) just this last Friday, I got into a debate over which was the best Dr. Who episode (at least of the new ones). I was arguing for Blink and the other guy for The Girl In The Fireplace (both of which are Moffat episodes). The thing is that The Girl In The Fireplace is my second favorite episode (and Blink just barely beats it). TGITF is the only Dr. Who episode to actually bring a tear to my eye. I wholeheartedly agreed with every argument he made while my arguments for Blink just bounced right off of him. He almost (or maybe briefly) had me converted.

I think the only reason that this is sticking with me is that he didn’t consider Blink all that great. The Girl In The Fireplace is one of the best episodes of all time so I totally see where he was coming from. But why couldn’t he see the same for Blink? Maybe that kind of psychological episode affects different people differently.

AnyWho, I’ll just end my little screed by reiterating how the weeping angels in the trailers made my pulse rise.

… after all that I am not that impressed with the trailer. Pretty but no substance. I still think Jon Pertwee was the besterest Doctor.

Atleast the new Doctor doesn’t look as babyfaced as the last one when he appeared. When the last Doctor came about, I did a little artwork piece in photoshop called “Doctor Who in 2010″, which was the Star Child from 2001 superimposed on some planetary nebula with bright colours.

If the actor’s any good (never seen him before), he’ll do just fine. If he’s the death of the franchise, they’ll get the old Doctors back… eventually… before I die, hopefully. Anyway, having these young dashing Doctors isn’t very good anymore. I think the time for a charismatic older Doctor is long overdue. Anyway, it’ll rejuvenate the interest in us older fans… there’s no way they’re going to cast an older dame as the Doctor anyway.

Joanna Lumley was great as the Doctor in the christmas special with Rowan Atkinson. It was a parody though.

More of a teaser than a trailer. I liked it. I liked what he said at the end too. Come on spring!

edit: Teaser trailer. I could learn to read the post title a little better eh? Yes, I agree then. First one is better show-wise. I like this one just from a visual standpoint and such.

I can’t help but feel this looks like the “Twilight” version of Doctor Who. So what–are Timelords going to *sparkle* in the sun now?
