  1. Straight outta Vulcan logical officer named Spock
When I’m called off they get a knowing scoff
Open up phasers and villains get hauled off
You too boy if you mess with my galaxy
Scotty’s gotta beam me up before I own you casually
“Fire photon torpedoes!” That’s how I’m goin’ out
For the punk Romulans that be showin’ out
Crew starts to mumble, Klingons want to rumble
Mix ‘em in a pot like Andorian gumbo

    That’s all I’ve got so far…

  2. Danil

Great, now I have a gangsta cover of the Ballad of Bilbo Baggins running through my head.

  3. Excession

    Flash is never logical.

  4. @ Danil

You had to say it. You HAD to.
    Damn you!

(Bilbo, Bilbo, Bravest lil gangsta hobbit of them all…)

  5. kevbo

  8. You don’t know (nor care, probably) how much I loathe the glamification of hoodlums.

Live in an urban area where these thugs gun down dozens of people every year, including innocent little kids minding their own business, and maybe you’d think twice about how “awesome” this crap is.

    Get off my lawn, too.

  9. Barneyj

    Hoodlum Vulcans?

  10. S.Glau

Technically this isn’t “glamification of hoodlums”. The above picture does not show Spock gunning down dozens of innocent little kids.

Indeed, the visual connotation of this picture does seem to be derived from a culture associated with gangsterism. But this does not glorify gangsterism itself. In any case, isn’t the main point of this picture about Spock doing funny things? And not about gangsterism?

“and maybe you’d think twice about how “awesome” this crap is.”

So, this is about how awesome Spock is, not how awesome gangsterism is…

  12. Why do you have to load some flash app to view a picture?

  13. Blaidd Drwg

Dr. BA – - I’m shocked that you STILL don’t have a post about the most amazing space-themed news of the week! I’m referring, of course, to the announcement that none other than Buzz Aldrin will be competing on ‘Dancing With the Stars’ next season.

  14. The first thing that comes to mind is: Live long and prosper … [insert explicative here]!

    *edited for niceness

  15. Kaylen

    Nerdfighters! hoo hah!

  16. Chris the Pragmatist

    You are kidding right?

Hip Hop and Star Trek DO NOT MIX!!! Quit TRYING to make it COOL. It isn’t. **Shakes my head**

  17. RAF

He doesn’t look like Nimoy or that evil “heroes” guy…

    Recasting the next movie??

  18. Charlie Young

So…Spock was throwing gang signs on Trek? Any Bloods or Crips ever show up for a gang bang during shooting?

  19. Charlie Young

    #13 That is awesome…not.

  20. @ S. Glau:

Indeed, the visual connotation of this picture does seem to be derived from a culture associated with gangsterism. But this does not glorify gangsterism itself.

Nah, no more than corporate-owned music labels marketing thug lifestyles to kids glorifies gangsterism. It’s all fun, right?

Yeah, until yet another kid winds up with a bullet in the head for having the audacity to look at one of these “fun” asshats while they’re flashing their stupid gang signs.

But skip it. It’s all just nerd fanboy humor.

  21. Katharine

    Ms. Glau,

“In any case, isn’t the main point of this picture about Spock doing funny things? And not about gangsterism?”

    Gangsterism is funny? Uh, no.

  22. @ Katharine:

Well, gangsterism can be funny if it’s being lampooned or otherwise satirized.

Unfortunately, this corporate-feeding pop entertainment crap doesn’t do that. It tries to present thugs as heroes, whose behavior is somehow worthy of emulation. They are not. And it is not. Unless you want to live in a world where “respect” is a notch on the barrel of a gun.

Sorry but I laughed out loud. Looked like my daughter when she was in middle school. C’mon, don’t read so much into a funny characture of Spock trying to be cool. I too was addicted to Star Trek once upon a stardate.

  25. @ Katwagner:

C’mon, don’t read so much into a funny characture of Spock trying to be cool.

That’s my point, Kat. Why is acting like a murderous gangster “cool”?

    But I’m shutting up now.

Hey! Look at the cool Martian sand dunes!

  26. katwagner

    @ kuhnigget.

To the kids, Spock trying to look cool had NOTHING to do with gangsters. So don’t you put this thing on them!

Let’s talk about something else now, more relevant maybe. Like SPRING IS COMING TO IDAHO TOO SOON. EL NINO SUX.

  27. Can we talk about potatoes? ;)
