Started to read it, but realized the ending was totally predictable.

The IT Crowd was actually funny and employed real actors who could do something other than behave like a preening drama queen or just stand and recite their lines.

As a former aerospace engineer turned full time mommy. I am not impressed. And I have even wondered what about the submarine question. (though the Shatner show has improved since I tried watching it a few weeks ago… wait, no, it also got weird)

I never said, or even suggested, that – and I don’t really see it in the thread. I just think the show is trash, dragged down further by it’s negative stereotyping.

Personally, I think if Wil Wheaton wanted to leave Wesley Crusher behind, Evil Wil Wheaton was just the creation to supplant him in people’s minds. I only hope he doesn’t grow tired of people behaving like he’s a Sheldon-torturing monster in real life.

So what’s this TBBT thing? Some show you sit and passively watch?

A while back, someone posted several minutes of TBBT to youtube, with the laughtrack removed. It. Was. AWESOME. One character would say a line, everyone would pause for the missing laughtrack. Another character’s line, another pause. And so on. Essentially it became a lot of poor scripting interrupted by awkward moments.

Too bad that video got yanked… oh well.

So scientists are by default nerdy, socially awkward people with serious personality disorders and lack of dress sense? And clearly your comment suggests that they can’t be good looking (or even interested in their looks).

It’s this kind of sterotypical nonsense that I detest in this show.

There are socially awkward people in all walks of life, and I don’t necessarily think there is a radically different in science. A bunch of cosmologists in the pub look like any other bunch of people. The topic of conversation may be different, but they are just people.

We go on about the lack of people going into science – especially women – and with this pervasive stereotype being lauded about, it’s no surprise really.

Normal people, not freaks, do science.

I agree. Having recently attended a local community college, and presently have two children now taking classes there (one being a high school student in a program for bright kids), I recognize many of the characters. Plus there are none of those painful sitcom bits that make me cringe.

Of course it helps that I used to watch “Almost Live”, a local Seattle comedy show that included Joel McHale (and Bill Nye the Science Guy).

On “Big Bang Theory” – I’m guessing they have two sets of writers: the actual geek writers who make the good parts of the show, and the sitcom writers who make the crappy parts of the show.

“I’m a cosmologist, and they don’t represent the people I know and work with. Again, maybe in america…..”

Maybe thats because the show is about nerdy scientists and not about people who work in a beauty shop . . .
