@39. Grizzly:
I'm afraid I have to agree with you. It seems to me that they are trying too hard to convince us that the guys are really nerds, socially inept etc. Anyway, some of the early episodes were quite fun, but after that the quality went downhill :(

I don't have a TV. I don't say that with any sense of self-righteousness, I once as a TV junkie and I could become one again, I suppose. We had twin boys who were very active and when we moved into this house we didn't get cable. 1 1/2 channels isn't conducive to much couch potato-ing.

That said, whenver I am away from home I check out the Discover Channel and other cable feeds. People have been raving on and on about TBBT, and I've read a lot of hype here about the show, including this particular one. We were away for the weekend and I took the opportunity to watch.

If you all say that's funny, then maybe it's me. I have a son who has Asperger Syndrome, and the show was pointed out to me as being a celebration of the nerd with a character who might just be on the Autism spectrum.

Nah. Same old Hollywood sh*t, laugh-track there to let you know something funny happened, laughing AT people rather than with them. We all know nerds, we all have them in our circle of friends, heck, we're all nerds. That's the best hollywood can do?

Sorry. A bit mean spirited and not the least bit funny. "I told you so" the character said. That's 30 minutes I'll never get back.

@33

It. Was. An. Air. Plane.

It was US Airways Flight 808. There are pictures on the net now of almost the exact same thing in the exact same place 24 hours later made by another plane. By today the weather has changed and conditions are not condusive to contrail formation. Actually, it was a typical spring-like day in November that we So Cal types enjoy every year. :-)

Flat out: anyone still claiming missile at this point might as well join the Birthers, the anti-vaxxers and the moon hoaxers.

<I>but there is certainly a resemblance. </I>

Yes. That is the whole point. Due to lighting and a perspective based illusion, there was a resemblance between the contrail and a missile. This has happened three or four times over the past dozen years or so. Did you go to the contrail science site? That guy does a Bad Astronomer worthy job of explaining it.

<i>but I still remain skeptical as all of the details have not been adequately explained.</i>

Yes, they have.

Look, I know the (for lack of a better term that I don't hate) geek community has a large contingent of types who want to imagine they are the rag tag rebel fleet against the evil empire, and need to see G-Men and conspiracies lurking in every shadow, but this one is done and over.

Really? Try watching the video links below. Notice in the 2nd video the glow. This is a Titan missile launch in both cases from Vandenburg. The video from Nov 8 shows a definite glow when the sun is opposite of the contrail away from the direction of view. Watch the reflection of the sun on the contrail and notice the angle. Some, of course, would not call this vapor column a contrail' but a chemtrail. This is not to say that I believe for certain that it was a missile launch, but there is certainly a resemblance. Go watch other videos on Youtube of Trident missile launches from sub. Yes, there are also resemblances to jet airplane contrails, but that does not necessarily mean that this is an airplane either. The yellow glow toward the end of the video at the height of the contrail's path is unsual. Perhaps it is a reflection, but maybe not. Which is why I said I remain skeptical at this point. I am not a CT, but I do think that people have a tendency to abuse Occam's Razor before getting the facts. There is a likelihood that it probably was an airplane, but I still remain skeptical as all of the details have not been adequately explained.

"Also Wesley Crusher – I’m NOT a fan. He probably ties with Neelix as most annoying character ever regularly featured in the Trek-verse."

Nobody is a fan of Wesley Crusher, but Wil has turned into a really good writer and a damn funny guy.

<i>I have watched the video over and over and as someone who knows a little something about rocketry, I am a little skeptical that it is a plane.</i>

Oh good lord... but a mystery missile for which there is not one scrap of other supporting evidence does not evoke skepticism?

http://contrailscience.com/

This might help as well:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occam%27s_razor

Contrail mistaken for rocket because of a perspective illusion which has happened many times before, or some super secret super squirrel missile launch?

Which is simpler?

Oh, but the feds are just lying, right? Same as with the moon landings and flouride! Gasp!

BTW, I am currently reading <b>Just A Geek</b>. As an aside, I am curious what your take on that contrail off the California coast Tuesday. Feds are claiming that contrail was from a plane.
BTW, I am currently reading Just A Geek. As an aside, I am curious what your take on that contrail off the California coast Tuesday. Feds are claiming that contrail was from a plane. I have watched the video over and over and as someone who knows a little something about rocketry, I am a little skeptical that it is a plane.

AJ Milne:
<blockquote>Or William Shatner appears. In a girdle. Sort of not singing over a backing track.</blockquote>Reminds me of a recent episode of "(Bleep) My Dad Says", in which William Shatner plays the dad. It was karaoke night, and as "Dad" is reading through the songlist, he enthusiastically decides to skip "<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hARDXYz2io" target=_new" rel="nofollow">Rocket Man</a>".

Now, what happens if Wil Wheaton gets a part on "Fringe" (see his blog post, linked in this article), and he and Leonard Nimoy appear on-screen at the same time?

And, finally, what do you need to do to be able to comment on Wil's blog?

DVR probably doesn't count, since i've rewatched the first two EWWBBT (evil wil wheaton big bang theory) episodes several times, and wil hasn't appeared. which is too bad, i'd love to tell him about my warforged paladin.

TBBT is one of my favorite TV shows ever. Just behind Firefly,,,(curse you Rupert Murdoch).

This post reminds me of my mothers injunction "Don't stick peas up your nose,,,", which of course, absolutely requires any self respecting kid to do just that.

I AM a self respecting kid so,,,

Re:

<i>I’m a little fuzzy about the penta-Wil Wheaton theory. If I DVR it, does he still show up when I watch it and phasar me, or is it only when I watch it live?</i>

Well (pushes random coloured buttons, studies mondo cool display) if I'm reading Geordi La Forge's groundbreaking work on quantum-dilithial-temporal-tachyon-quarkythingy transreality phasar assaults here correctly, the warp core would flubbox counterclockwise toward the sneetch if he even tries that... Which would, like, totally tear a hole in the space-time continuum...

(Possibly twice. Potentially also causing a terminal run in the space-time fishnets. Tho' this is hard to predict...)

Thus, two mutually exclusive possibilities remain: if you do this, either Wil Wheaton appears and phasars the offending PVR...

Or William Shatner appears. In a girdle. Sort of not singing over a backing track.

(/So your call, I guess.)
