I imagine I'm going to get shot down, but I'm not one of the 'yay suicide girls' commenters. I am sex positive in my life and outlook, and am stating that fact so people don'taccuse me of being a 'prude' for my criticism.
But I personally feel that SG is not helping progressive empowerment of women, despite the women (not "girls") being in control of their own material, and all the 'extra' content in the form of interviews with people such as you Phil.
My opinion is that until women are regarded by society at large first and foremost as people whose most important characteristic is their brain and personality, rather than sexual creatures whose looks in fact are the thing to be celebrated, SG will be acting to maintain negative stereotypes rather than deconstruct them. So sadly I won't go and read the interview because I don't want anything to do with a site that promotes the "women can be smart AND sexy!" trope because it's dull and not progressive. Can't we just be smart?
This is my personal point of view and I respect Phil's opinion and right to post the link to SG on his own blog. As a reader who loves the blog, I'm simply giving feedback here.

If I can take somebody by the hand and say, “Look over here. Look at this thing right here. Isn’t that awesome?” If I can achieve that every now and again, that’s it, I’ve got it made.

^^This is half of the reason I want to do science. I would love to spend the rest of my days finding out cool stuff, then running around going "Look at this cool stuff I found out!"

But Doctor it should be obvious by now that not everyone wants the truth and for those people it is a very negative thing indeed and they will resist having it force fed to them.

The truth is for people who are beautiful, young, intelligent, healthy and rich. They are ready for it and will welcome it. For everyone else there is the soothing balm of fantasy, of one stripe or another. Except for those poor sods who are for whatever reason immune to those drugs and have no choice but to look at reality full on.

"I’ve been a fan of SG for a while — it gives a strong, nerdy voice to decidedly non-mainstream thinking in a wide variety of topics"

Well, yeah, back in my high school days, we would read Playboy for the interviews...
