I am an astronomer, writer, and skeptic. I likes reality the way it is, and I aims to keep it that way. My real name is Phil Plait, and I run the Bad Astronomy blog.

Bill, I don't think that joke will ever outstay it's welcome.

It's one of the few constants in the universe I have come to rely on

Speaking of stuff to read, NASA is offering some e-books for download. They mostly sound pretty dry and technical, but I'd be willing to try one if someone said it had some interesting bits in it. http://www.nasa.gov/connect/ebooks/

@ ^ Monkey :

Funny how the best of the web gets blasted right back into paper – people (yes, me too) still like to hold a chunk of processed tree in their mitts when reading.

Seconded by me. I'm one of those people too. :-)

Bad Astronomer, (or do you prefer we call you Phil?) I really wish you'd turn some - actually make that *many* - of your best posts here into permanent print book form. Please, could you do this - I'd be delighted to suggest some of my favourites among the thousands of articles you've posted here which I reckon are deserving of printed published bookish immortality & I bet many others would as well! ;-)

The web is kinda transient and, sadly, some superluminous and well-written, fascinating stuff just gets buried and forgotten all too quickly - a Best of the Bad Astronomy Blog book (or three!) is something I'd certainly get and love to see on the shelves.

Please? Pretty please with a barred spiral galaxy on top? :-)

BTW. are you writing anything presently?

Funny how the best of the web gets blasted right back into paper - people (yes, me too) still like to hold a chunk of processed tree in their mitts when reading. Or, maybe people are opting for the pdf version. Either way, its a nice way to get a one-stop place for top-notch writing.

Im looking forward to reading these - and in regards to the "cant we just find it on the web for free", I am assuming these are fine tuned versions of their original, perhaps with more details and pictures, etc? Like Phil mentioned about his being touched up, I am sure that the others are "better" versions of their original? Am I right?
