Bad Universe to air on Discovery UK August 15, 16, and 17

By Phil Plait | August 12, 2011 4:00 am

I’ve just learned that all three episodes of my TV show, "Phil Plait’s Bad Universe", will air in the UK on DiscoveryUK from August 15th through the 17th. The air times vary, so check the link to find out when it’s playing.

Sky TV has clips online to give you a taste of the three episodes: Asteroid Apocalypse , Alien Attack, and Death Stars. If you sense a theme, well, read the title of the show again.

Hope you like ’em!

And by the way, the DVD set is available on the Discovery Channel store and at other online venues like Amazon.

Great news for us Sky TV subscribers!

  2. Gareth

Ta for the heads-up. I’ve been waiting for this.

Hope people either like to stay up really late or have the ability to record the programme as it’s on at 1am on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (technically, the 16th, 17th and 18th…) on Discovery Science (Sky #524).

I really wish you could do more of these, and it wasn’t just a 3-episode miniseries. The general style/theme looks pretty cool, and it would make for a show I’d definitely like to watch on a regular basis.

Discovery Science also available to people not on Sky such as those with Virgin Media.
The Discovery site indicates the progs also showing during the day – 3 showings of each prog.

WOO HOO!!!!! Runs to Tivo…. Click, click, click… Engage!

For VirginMedia customers, it’s on Channel 219, Discovery Science, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at 20:00. Each episode is repeated the following day at 01:00 and 15:00, so no excuse to miss it.

    AP :)

Which episode was #3 and when did it air in the US? I only have 2 (I think #1 and #2) on my DVR and it’s made no attempts to record anything else.

    Hi Phil.

Am really looking forward to seeing this. Just FYI it’s on Discovery Science on Sky UK at 8pm each evening.

  8. Praedico

Just one month after I cancelled my cable TV subscription.

  9. I was wondering when you’d get notified of this.

I saw it mentioned in the last issues of the BBC sky at night magazine that these were coming this month. Glad to have the dates confirmed.

    Looking forward to seeing them.

  10. David

Is there any chance at all of getting these on Netflix or Hulu?

  11. Yay! Thanks for the warning – I’d have missed it otherwise. I’m glad now I kept basic Sky instead of dropping back to freeview.

  12. I have the DVD, but I would really like a Blu-ray release. The show aired in HD, didn’t it?

  13. Bugger. I long ago refused to pay any more into the evil empire that is Rupert Murdoch and Sky TV, so no Discovery channel for me. :(

  14. davidlpf

Any news if discovery will make any more episodes?

  15. Keith Bowden

    A Charlie Brown “Aaaggghhh!”

I didn’t realize this was out on DVD yet. I’d rather have it in high def, but that (and a continuation of the series?) is unlikely unless Discovery sees support for the existing release. Hey, it’s you… of course I’ll buy it!

(And of course I had to buy other things to get free shipping and then more… grumble grumble.) :)

Yes! Sky+ Remote Record and relax. Great news, been looking forward to these and was never sure we’d get them.

  17. RAF

DVD set?? Heck, anyone that interested likely recorded it when it aired….I did.

  18. PaulD

Right then, that’s my Sky+ box set! I can’t wait.

  19. Not everyone who is interested subscribes to cable television, or lives in a country in which the show was aired. The whole point of this post is that it’s only just now airing in the UK.

  20. Nigel Depledge

Well, I have mixed feelings about this –
Yay that Bad Universe is coming to teh UK; but
Boo that it’s only available on a subscription channel (i.e. satellite / cable as opposed to terrestrial Freeview – although with our TV licensing system, no TV is free).

  21. Beau

Sweet! I had no idea this was out on DVD. It will be great to add to my collection.

  22. Sticks

I am out on Wednesday night!

  23. Thomas Siefert

I’ll have to toss up between buying this DVD or ‘Armageddon’…

  24. keith bowden

    Now that’s just cruel…

  25. Jools

Great!! I just wish programme makers would do 45 minute programmes like this so us teachers can show them in a science lesson!
