@Quiet — I see the characters of Sheriff Jack Carter and The Doctor as being somewhat opposite. They both solve nearly impossible problems, but do so from very different perspectives and different techniques. Carter is a regular guy among geniuses and understands little that they do. He is the representative of the audience (I know there’s a formal theatrical word for this, but it escapes me); when Fargo or Henry explain something to him, they’re explaining it to us. By contrast, The Doctor is always the smartest person in the room. It’s his companions who fill the role of audience representative. Carter does his feats using bravery, while The Doctor uses cleverness. Though being heroes, they’re both selfless. That said, I’d love to see Jack Carter go for a ride in the TARDIS!
