How about someone developing some sensors, with matching apps to fit smartphones? There is a great opportunity to boost learning and probably make a few dollars along the way. More and more kids have them, it would be great to be able to plug in a simple pH or temperature probe that downloaded to a data logging app in the phone. My students love the technology. If you give them something to do involving their phones or ipods the motivation level jumps immediately.

My son went to a 4 year old birthday party last year and in lieu of presents the parents had set up some Donor Choice projects.

Phil, you were a little late, you should have done it on your birthday.

I love that you guys do this in October, around my birthday. Every year I feel like I’m giving a “birthday gift” to science students. And good job, Phil, getting your Donors Choose competition up before Cosmic Variance.

I teach general chemistry and trust me, these kids need all the help they can get.
