"@Thad Beier: “7 million years ago”"

I think you meant me? If so then:

Why do you say I meant 6000 years?

I was merely trying to roughly establish an approximation of when humans possibly first developed their imaginations. While I cannot be sure (I don't think anybody can) when our imaginations started running wild so to speak, I suppose I will give partial credit to Toumai (Sahelanthropus) found in Chad 7 million years ago. I suppose I could have given the credit to stromatolites whom already have the honor of being the oldest fossils on Earth dated over 3 billion years ago. Perhaps I should have credited eukaryotes with having the first inklings of imagination, though, as most people imagine what imagination is this would probably not be applicable. I suppose I should have given more credit to homo habilis or homo erectus or maybe even further up the line, homo heidelbergenesis or maybe just homo sapien . . . in referring to the beginnings of "human imagination" but hey, my imagination gets the best of me sometimes. I am an abiogenesis guy, btw.

"Perhaps the most interesting trait in the Toumai's skull is the foramen magnum, the aperture at the base of the skull, where the spine cord connects to the brain. It has an oval, not round shape like in chimps. Its shape and location points out that Toumai could walk in an upright position. Based on the skull's size, researchers believe the Sahelanthropus was the size of a chimp."

There is no spell check or auto correct on my cell phone either ;) Sounds like your assuming a lot, sorry if i led you to assume things.

I might name my next pet Enceladus

I'll blame your auto correct when you meant to say 6000 years.

At least here in Southern California, it is often very easy to see the shadow of the earth in the atmosphere around sunset. Look away from the sun just after it sets, and you can see a clear line across the sky where the atmosphere above it is in sun, and below it is shadowed by the earth.

"And why? Because we want to."

Loved the last thoughts here. :)

I might even say (to add to this) that there is an underlying need to explore rooted in the brilliance of imagination. Though it is beside the point, it is possibly the source of All of mankind's greatest achievements, all the way back to 7 million years ago.

Now all I need is an "I love Enceladus" bumper sticker.

Wow, I get it! Great drawing. And don't we see the line here on Earth at sunset? Sometimes? Did I read that here, or somewhere else and watch the shadow on a sunset? And Phil, I watched your TED talk on the Science channel. So cool, the car with the asteroid mashup.

I was thinking it was going to be another filter artifact: different wavelengths being diffracted around Enceladus at different angles. Does that play any role here?

That isn't a bad drawing. That's a better circle that I could ever draw.
