Doctor, your dinner’s in the oven. Mmmmm, mmmm!

doctorwho_spacesuitOMFSM.

First, there’s going to be a remake of "Fright Night", an actually pretty good vampire flick from the 1980s. I’m generally opposed to most remakes, but I think that this isn’t such an awful idea, since the premise itself is a good one. However, the remake’s director is the same guy who did "Lars and the Real Girl", which was… well, I’ll just say I didn’t like it and leave it at that.

But…

Guess Who they tapped for the part of Vincent, the fey late-night movie host who winds up becoming a real vampire hunter? David Tennant!

Oh yeah. I’ll watch that. The original role was played by Roddy McDowall, who was great. Tennant is a pretty good fit to that role, too.

Given who played the original role, I wonder what’s next for Tennant after this? I’m thinking Cornelius in a "Planet of the Apes" sequel. Ook ook.

Allons-me?

tombakerApparently, I am Tom Baker. I had guessed I’d be David Tennant, but thinking on it carefully, Baker’s a closer fit to who I am; Tennant (at least up until the last episode, feh) was who — I mean, Who — I wanted to be.

Which Doctor Who are you?

Tip o’ the big floppy hat to regular BABloggee IVAN3MAN.

Tennant’s and Stewart’s Hamlet to air this month

Are you a scifi+ Shakespeare dork?

I just found out that the stage version of Hamlet starring David Tennant and Patrick Stewart has been made into a film, and it will air on BBC 2 on December 26th. The BBC has the info (look to the right, fourth panel down). I hope they come out with it on BBC America, or Blu-ray! I wish I could’ve seen the stage version (oh, outrageous fortune! — but we all suffer slings and arrows sometimes) but this’ll do in its stead.

David Tennant as Hamlet

Still, I’ll always like the Harold Hecuba interpretation the best.

Tip o’ Yorick’s skull to John Ellis.

Doctor Who End of Time trailer, preview, spoilers!

MAJOR SPOILERS FOR DOCTOR WHO BELOW!

If you don’t want to have any inkling of what happens to The Doctor next, then you need to EXTERMINATE/DELETE this post immediately.

(Here’s a picture just to use as filler so you can avoid spoilers):

OK, that’s enough spoilage space.

If you’re a Who fan, and you’ve seen Waters of Mars already, then feast your eyes on this trailer released by the BBC for the next part of the 10th Doctor’s final adventures: "End of Time", Part 1 of which airs on December 25 in the UK and the 26th on BBC America.

Oh, baby! I know who’s laughing there. Woohoo!

And if that’s not enough, they’ve also released a three minute clip from the beginning of the episode:

[Update: Sorry about the bad link earlier; I thought that was an official release. The video is now from the BBCA site.]

Part 2 — David Tennant’s final episode — will air January 1 in the UK and January 2 in the US. The BBC is releasing the last three episodes ("Waters of Mars" and both parts of "End of Time") on BluRay and DVD on February 2, 2010.

Wow. I’m going to be very sad to see the end of Tennant’s stint as the Doctor. But I’m also interested to see Matt Smith step in, too. I wasn’t all that happy with Tennant at first, but now he’s my favorite. I’m a skeptic, so I’m always willing, even eager, for new evidence.

So, of course: alons-y!

Doctor Who Season 5 MASSIVE SPOILERS

MAJOR DOCTOR WHO SPOILERS BELOW.

I AM WAY WAY SERIOUS.

DO NOT READ THIS IS YOU DON’T WANT TO SEE A GINORMOUS SPOILER.

IN FACT, EVERYONE LEAVE NOW.

[Looks around. Anyone left? OK.]

AAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Well, crap.

It’s official. David Tennant is leaving the role of Doctor Who.

Series 5 (what we call "season 5" in the US) will have the usual Christmas Special, then four more special episodes, and then a new actor will take over the role. Speculation is rampant about Who it will be (haha) but nothing has been confirmed yet.

I have something of a man crush on David Tennant, and I will be truly sorry to see him go. He has brought a depth and emotion to the role that beautifully ties in the pathos of the character that I need as an adult, with the swashbuckling nonsense I loved so much as an adolescent.

Adjusting to a new actor will be very difficult, but that’s the price of love for the show. I wonder if they’ll establish a new companion before this happens?

Sigh. OK, I can deal with this. And who knows; I like Christopher Eccleston a lot, but wound up liking Tennant more. Maybe the next person will be even better.

But still. Sigh.

Tip o’ the sonic screwdriver to Jason Hanford-Smith.
