Palin’s Achilles Heel

There is much speculation about how Obama should go after Sarah Palin. If he goes after her resume—she was mayor of a town of 7,000, then the governor of a state of 680,000—that leaves him open to the absurd but potentially effective argument that these credentials are superior to those of a senator. If he goes after her evident backwardness or unusually conservative religious beliefs, the gun/bikini photo, the never traveled anywhere thing—well, we know how the clinging to guns and religion thing went over.

Palin Family It seems to me you say, she thinks the melting of arctic ice isn’t caused by humans. She thinks polar bears aren’t endangered. She doesn’t think Exxon should have to pay up. All those non-radical conservatives in Colorado, Ohio, and Nevada care about this. (See this recap of her record so far). It’s not a personal attack, and it’s not just a reiteration of the tired McCain administration = Bush administration charge.

It’s just a way of making the effects of her ignorance concrete. She’s not just a smiling hick in a bathing suit holding a gun by a pool. She’s a smiling hick in a bathing suit standing on a melting iceberg.

I’m am a long time subscriber to Discover and it gives me great pain to see this tripe attached to that name. The bikini photo was quickly denounced as a fake and with just a little effort you could have known that. Seems to undercut your credibility, though that doesn’t seem to be an important attribute for bloggers.

    Reaction to above comment:

Did you actually comprehend what was important in this article? You sound like you are definitely what the McCain campaign is hoping for - someone with the reading comprehension of a two year old and the memory of a gold fish!

You are out of bounds! You have obviously been brainwashed by the equally ignorant liberal bloggers, newspapers and broadcast TV reporters.
When John Edwards ran for VP in 2000, his political experience consisted of only 17 months as US Senator. No one objected. A Senator is only one of 100 voices, with little authority, responsibility or accountability. A mayor and governor make many decisions each day that they have to live with. Even President Johnson recognized that being a mayor was tougher than being a Senator.
Palin has more executive experience and is far more qualified to be President than Obama. She is running a big business, was a mayor and is a governor. She and has visited more non-communist foreign countries and has actually done something to bring healthcare to people who need it,
The polar bear population has increased so much, the Inuits have increased the bag limit by 25%. And they have become pests in Eastern Canada. And you label yourself a “Science” mag. - ridiculous! 31,072 scientists, some with PhD’s in Meteorology, just signed a petition disputing man-made global warming. Palin at one heart beat from the Presidency is a better bet than do-nothing Pelosi at two heart beats from the presidency.

If you have to be blatantly biased, at least try to be accurate. On second thought, that wouldn’t serve the purpose, now would it?

Fact Checker….wonderful and witty response. Let me spell it out more slowly….if you can’t get all of the facts accurate in just three paragraphs then the credibility of the rest of the “facts” can be reasonably questioned. Here’s a good link you might want to check out just to stay informed…..http://explorations.chasrmartin.com/2008/09/06/palin-rumors/
