"Physics conferences will have 20 talks per hour...."

If only!

Can somebody tell me: why, why, WHY do people find it so hard to give talks that are even remotely interesting? I mean, surely *the speaker* must find some interest in the work?

True that the Gen Yers (apparently now known as "millenials") have notoriously low attention spans. But it's not like your average 30 min show with 3 commercial breaks requires much more than these 6 min segments. I think the actually interesting part of the network is that it proports to be mostly user submitted and user controlled. We'll see how that works out, but I think recent experience has show it can work brilliantly (eg. blogs, flickr, the moveon contests). And it's hard to imagine getting worse than the drivel that passes for "respectable" TV news.

Will this channel show Gore 24/7 saying "In the year 2000..." like every news channel did during his campaign? Good lord, what a lame phrase to dwell on...
