This Week’s This American Life, II

by cjohnson

Recall that I mentioned listening out for the show “This American Life”, in a post last week, and pointing to where you can get archived audio of it.

Well, this week’s show will do a second part of that set of recollections of people afflicted by Katrina, its aftermath, and the officials charged with their protection. The focus is to be more on the happenings inside the Superdome. (I’ve not heard it yet, so can’t comment…..I welcome your own comments here once you’ve heard it.)

Find your local station by going to NPR’s site, or go to the show’s website later in the week for the audio stream.

These stories were all “keepers” as far as I’m concerned and I could not, if asked, pick a favorite or one I’d drop, knowing of course that there are many others that could replace them and which I’d like to hear. I was touched by all of them in different ways as they shed light on an event that borders on the unimaginable, i.e. to experience up close and personal. I listen regularly to “American Routes” and have been listening for Nick Spitzer’s comments. I am still in amazement of the woman who floated around her house on a mattress. She told this story so matter of factly and so beautifully. She is clearly a woman of some fiber and strength. Politicians, notably our current administration, abuse the phrase of the kind tht invoke “the American people.” I wish that they knew some of them. They might then be humbled–OK, I deceive myself!–and also realize the singular honor of governing this nation.

Ed…I missed it on Sunday due to another appointment….I can’t wait to listen to the audio stream…. it sounds like a must-hear, as I’d expected. Thanks.

    Cheers,
