spyder: Well, it's surrounded on all sides by USC campus buildings now. The really big things that happen there are now an integral part of the USC campus life... at the very least because of parking..... But more so, as they usually have satellite stuff going on (red carpets, receptions, etc)

Yes, Mr Bruin, we're taking over!

"the Shrine Auditorium, which is essentially on the campus." ugh???? well, maybe being a Trojan inspires one to make such an assumption regarding this edifice. But in the days of yore, okay the 60's for example, we Bruins would often make the journey to the Shrine for the experience of discovering the sacred music of those now mythical bands, and never once considered we were near USC. Even unto the 70's and early 80's our musical opportunities, though dwindling, still moved us to visit the Shrine with no appreciable awareness that USC was devouring the properties to its East. Only when we produced a Halloween show there three years ago(The 2002 HULAWEEN ACADEMUMMY AWARDS) did our efforts to park the audience and shuttle people in, yes Hummer limo's, help me discover to my horror USC's proximal invasion of a once lovely and non-partisan music venue.

ljs..... yeah, people keep telling me to come to the games. I'll get around to it one day. I imagine. I've watched some big USC games on TV and they can be amazing, even for a non-football (of either sort) fan. I have to say that I find the rallies, ritual chants, salutes and singing of songs in unison both admirable and exhilarating on one hand, and downright scary on the other. It's the European in me talking.....

Thanks Mark, :-D

I'll just mention (apropos of nothing) that the campus newspaper is called the "Daily Trojan", and let you make up your own jokes.... I work on this campus, so I have to remain appropriately professorial.

You summed it up just right Clifford by saying "the legendary -and truly admirable- power of the Trojan Family Spirit"! You have now touched on my area of expertise, sorry no science. There is nothing quite like the Trojan spirit! Those 2 words of Fight On run deep and can be heard uttered out of the mouths of many. Those campus happenings you mention occur for every home game. You must come for the Homecoming game on October 29 where there are vendors selling just about anything USC and, of course, the usual tailgating. You did miss the ritual kicking of the lamposts on Trousedale Parkway as you cross over Exposition to the Coliseum!! Fight On!

Thanks! A little detective work via Google has partially explained it to me. It also looks like the anthro department at USC has a broader definition of the field than a lot of departments do.

I don't know - I guess the fact that they're already starting to roll out hybrid SUVs and luxury vehicles that don't actually get much better gas mileage means to me that a hybrid limo isn't really that big of a stretch.

And honestly, I like the look of the new generation of Prius cars (that's my cop out for not knowing what the plural of Prius should be).

Janet,

Re: The Stretch Prius - Yes, that's the joke I was trying to make.

I can't speak for Amy and her work, since I have expertise only in my narrow field within physics. I'll let Amy know there's a question..... She may not be a blog reader/commenter so I can't promise she'll answer.
