Visions of Science is a photographic awards scheme organised by Novartis Pharmaceuticals to encourage ongoing discussion about science.
So, what is a Vision of Science? To the judges of the Awards, a Vision of Science is an attention-grabbing image that gives new insight into the world of science and the workings of nature. It may show something never seen before, it may explain a scientific phenomenon, it may illustrate scientific data or it may simply be an image that shows the beauty of science.
The panel of judges remains a sound mix of scientists, photographers and picture editors.
Visions of Science is organised by Novartis Pharmaceuticals. The Daily Telegraph is the key media partner. The category prize money of £7,000, together with support and advice comes from the Science Photo Library. Special awards this year have been sponsored by the Institute of Physics, the BMJ, Science Learning Centres and Kodak Ltd.

I came across your site because I was investigating a new patent that was just granted – US 6960975 – space vehicle propelled by the inflationary vacuum state… anyway, sean carroll’s article “cosmological constant” was used as a reference – so I was checking to see the validity of it…
Since I didn’t see anything on the blog here referring to this patent, I thought you guys might not be aware of it… You can go check it out for yourselves, free at the http://www.uspto.gov website…

This is unbelievable. One of the requirements of a patent is that it disclose a method by which someone ordinarily skilled in the art can make the invention. The fact that the Patent Office granted this is absolutely absurd. They may as well go back and issue patents for all the perpetual motion machines they’ve rejected over the years.
As one who has a background in intellectual property law and some physics, I cannot believe this slipped through.
Of course I could be totally wrong here and should take my retirement account and invest in the inevitable start-up company.

The entire world is looking for a source of clean energy. I have discovered a certain paradox basing on which a machine called METOZ can be built which by harnessing the gravitation of our EARTH can produce clean energy.

“METOZ” is able to realize the cycle “deflection” and the cycle “straighening.” Both cycles are in accordance with current physic’s laws. “METOZ” as machine can not work and hand over the energy because it would be inconsonant to the law of conservation of energy.
I propose to execute the following intelectual process:
we have found ourselves in the Europe of XVII century. We know the trigonometry in the scope of being occured for “METOZ.” We know what is the even-arm lever and moment of force too. Just appeears Mr. Baise Pascal / 1623–1662/ and he publishes his hydraulics law with adequated experiment. All thinkers are sure that this law is correct and quite real. This time someone invents machine “METOZ”. Now turn up the following questions:
