[...] So after tedious cleanup of painting things (I hate having to do that), showering (with brutal use of a scouring pad to get the day’s paint off), and preparing for this evening’s delights (editing an article), I thought I would settle down with a bottle of wine and blog for a bit and tell you about my evening from last Sunday.
Brunsli,

The movie was not Wierd Science. It was Real Genius, but you got the Val Kilmer part right.

Wow! Roberto! Great to hear from you. I'm always surpirsed to learn that people I know actually read my posts, so this is a great surprise. About the recollection...that was a very pleasant evening and I remember such evenings rather well. (It is odd...I tend to remember things like that very visually, like a film sometimes... it just plays and I can watch it. For some things. For others.... blur. Maybe it's like that for everyone? I've no way of knowing, of course....)

Anyway, the scene with the cheesy/silly robot suit is used in a way actually fits the film properly. It is a very quirky film, and so it works fine.

Cheers,

-cvj

Hi Clifford,

That stunt with the robot, in a clever thriller?! Wow, I hope I get to see the movie some time. In fact, I hope that I see it without knowing it's the film you talk about, so I, too, have the same flashback to that evening (btw, nice recollection!).

cheers,

roberto

When I was considering Caltech for grad school, I found it a little odd that the the students told me that Weird Science (again, Val Kilmer) was filmed in the dorms, that Beverly Hills Cop was filmed at the Ath ... so it was obviously a very important school and that I should come.

There you have it -- LA gets us all.

Hi Plato,

The way the shot is done, they only have the ocean in the background. It would not do to have a large gawping crowd, and a large pile of cardboard boxes in the shot....so they edit.

Sure, LA means a lot to me. I live here. I care about where I live!

Cheers,

Your not in the script?

So as they turn the camera on the guy falling over the rail, where was the crowd that you were standing with? :)

Off to the side?

I thought maybe there would be a cameo appearance by yourself, as they scanned the beaches. Wait! How could you possibly be watching such a crime...as you write now, watching that movie, from a retrospect point of view?

Man, it's all twisted

It's not to hard to tell LA means a lot to you. :)
