Don’t You Just Hate It When…

by cjohnson

Yesterday morning, I spent 45 minutes hunting high and low for my monthly travel pass…. It was not in any of the usual places…. but it was a long weekend, and I went out to do social things, so maybe the routine of where I put things got out of sync….. Nope. laundry accident Could not find it. Odd, I’m usually so good at keeping track of things like that. Then it hit me…. I went out to the back garden, and there was a tiny bit of paper under the washing line just where I hung all those shirts out to dry on the weekend. I unfolded the sorry mess (about the size of a quarter, amazingly) carefully to reveal.. a shrivelled-up travel pass. Sigh. Not a good start to the week. (Although given my weird (?) psychological makeup, it was a huge relief to know that I had not really misplaced it outside the home somewhere. I hate losing things.)

I’ve since been preparing to sheepishly explain to bus drivers about the “embarrassing laundry incident”, but it seems that it is quite common as they don’t give my taped-together-barely-readable pass a second look. I might not have to buy a new one if I can make it last just another week. On the down side, my collection of old passes is ruined now….

Maybe the bus drivers don’t care because they know the freak with the folding bike who keeps calculating in the bus has a travel pass?

Hmmmmm, yes, that could be it, you know. I had not thought of that! ;-)

Maybe we should have somebody taking pictures of Clifford on the bus. That might look cool ;-)

    • Cosmic Variance Cosmic Variance is a group blog by people who, coincidentally or not, all happen to be physicists and astrophysicists:
      • Daniel Holz
      • JoAnne Hewett
      • John Conway
      • Julianne Dalcanton
      • Mark Trodden
      • Risa Wechsler
      • Sean Carroll
Our day (and night) jobs notwithstanding, the blog is about whatever we find interesting — science, to be sure, but also arts, politics, culture, technology, academia, and miscellaneous trivia. We have similar outlooks on many things, widely disparate opinions about others, and will do our best to keep the discourse reasonably elevated.
