interesting... I actually work with monkeys, and I had no idea chimps were endangered! I think it's a good point about orangutans and gorillas getting more press for being endangered than chimps. I've seen at least a few pictures of orangutans and gorillas in human clothes, and I think the only reason they're not more prominent in commercials and movies like Ed is because they're much harder to tame. and not as cute and crazy.

In order to prevent the premature extinction of any of the Great Apes, we are going to have to make a concerted effort to protect them and their habitat. In Indonesia, the expansion of palm oil plantations into virgin forest is leading to the slaughter of thousands of gentle orangutans. The situation with orangutans in Borneo is unique in that there is no war going on, there are no armed rebel factions hunting orangutans for meat. They are being extinguished almost as an aside for purely commercial purposes. Palm oil corporations want the land to grow more trees and produce more oil. And the Indonesia government is handing it to them for a few pieces of silver. It's simple economics. It is also horrific, genocidal and tremendously heartbreaking....

I invite you and your readers to learn more about orangutans and the crisis they are facing because of palm oil. Learn what you can do to help at the Orangutan Outreach website: http://redapes.org

Keep up the fine work...
