Want to Cure Your Fear of Flying? There’s an App for That.

iphone-webListen up, iPhone users. If you’re a little uneasy flying the friendly skies, don’t worry: Richard Branson, president of Virgin Atlantic, will talk you through it. Branson has released a new iPhone app to help you make it through your flight. It’s for sale in Apple’s app store for about the same price as an in-flight beer.

Dubbed the Flying Without Fear app, it features an introduction by Branson himself, a video explaining how flying works, FAQs, relaxation exercises, and an emergency panic button to press for breathing exercises. And it’s Whoopi Goldberg endorsed!

Mashable has the deets:

The app is based on Virgin Atlantic Airways’ Flying Without Fear course, which supposedly has a 98% success rate. The idea is not bad: anything that can make your mind busy during those awkward moments of liftoff would probably be helpful, and an iPhone app seems like a perfect way to do just that. Richard Branson, president of Virgin Atlantic, claims “the app will put many travelers at ease and enable them to prepare for their first Virgin Atlantic flight.”

However it’s unclear how this app will help during the most nerve-wrecking parts of flying—takeoff and landing—since airlines require you to turn off any electronics that have an on/off switch. Guess you’ll just have to calm your nerves at the airport bar the old-fashioned way.

We really need a “get through traffic to the airport…go through customs…make it to the correct terminal…find the correct gate…all without panic/anger/frustruation” app.

This “app” is the same old stuff in a new wrapper. This course depends on relaxation exercises though research shows relaxation exercises are completely useless when flying.

There are solid courses available for fear of flying. This is not one of them.

Thanks for the interest you have shown in the Flying Without Fear app from Virgin Atlantic.

The comments relating to using the app during take-off and landing lead me to want to clarify a couple of things about the app.

Users of the app will have access to a customized program preparing them for their future flight which includes fear therapy for take-off and landing if they have specified this as a fear. They can watch a video-based in-flight explanation of things that occur during flight, listen to FAQs, practice relaxation exercises, and learn how to breathe correctly when they are about to have an anxiety attack.

Unfortunately, passengers cannot use any electronic device – including the iPhone in airplane mode – during take-off and landing but the app is developed to prepare users for flight whereby making the brief “no electronics” period at the beginning and end of the flight more manageable. The panic button is intended to be used during the flight when turbulence is encountered or other events occur which make the user uncomfortable.

    See you in the skies,

This is more likely to help their revenue stream than fearful flyers, in my opinion.

You can get all this stuff free on my website… and it’s been available for far longer than it has been on any other site.

We’ll also help you with facts, audios, pictures, blog, social network…all free and all more useful in my opinion.

Or you can call me for free advice.

maybe I ask my sister to try it, appln., who isn’t willing to try supplement http://www.yourwingz.com to overcome her fears; using the same, my brother sees pleasant results.
