@James. We need to use what we have. Robots currently in development which operate under control by a human use gamepads, it's just a fact. When you have generations which have already picked up the skills needed to perform actions with a game pad to near surgical level of accuracy, how can you reasonably or responsibly choose any other input device? Not when you need these people trained yesterday or trained on a budget.

You are right, radioactive isotope leaks are endangering the Japanese people now. Because of that, we need to use the tools we have right now. Those tools may look like "toys" to you, but that does not undermine their utility or importance.

The Japanese people are being poisoned. Iodine-131 is beginning to taint milk on the West Coast. Politicians are dithering. Obama is obsessed with basketball and bombing Libya. Workers at the plant are dying. It's a meltdown. Let's put Michio Kaku in charge. Fund it to the $1 trillion level. We need serious robotics, not toys. It will be expensive, many billions.

I makes perfect sense though. Gaming has become such a common activity that picking up a controller is almost second nature for so many people. So why go through all the trouble of creating a new controller when you can adapt one that is already available on the market?
