About the title, I wonder if it would horrify the present-day audience. It would not horrify me at all — I feel like applauding Prof. Brindley. I write this as a “straight” bloke with no diagnosed mental illnesses or deviations, and as someone who has enough psychologists (friends) in his life, qualified to make such diagnoses.
What kind of medical demonstration would horrify me? Inflicting a lot of pain on oneself or on others… perhaps. I can’t think of much else. If it weren’t 1983, I’d have been a bit disappointed with the audience — in particular, with the women who screamed for just this much (if they were doctors.)
