NCBI ROFL: WTF? anoTHER blog?

As our dissertations loom ahead, we find we need more distraction, so we bring you:

pwned experiments

As we won’t be posting at NCBI ROFL until our move to Discover Magazine in January, we will be posting owned, pwned, and failed science at our new blog, and welcome submissions… (ahem).

NCBI ROFL: Party with the ladies of NCBI ROFL and win a free beer stein!

Ladies and gentlemen…we have some exciting news…

NCBI ROFL has been adopted! After a year of cobbling together posts in between begging for beer money (and doing a few experiments here and there), we’re officially being taken under the wing of big daddy Discover Magazine!

As of the new year, we and our archives will be moving to our shiny new digs at Discoblog. Of course, we’ll continue to post in our classic format, though we may have a few surprises up our sleeve(s) as well. So stay tuned — you’ll be automatically redirected to Discover once the move has been made.

In light of this exciting news, we’re having a celebration next Thursday, December 17 at 6 pm at Jupiter in Berkeley. Even more exciting, the first two people to buy us rounds will get a FREE NCBI ROFL beer stein! But even if you don’t win, you’ll get the rare opportunity to party with the ladies of NCBI ROFL!

Hope to see you there!

NCBI ROFL: It's Charlton week on NCBI ROFL!

We love Bruce G. Charlton. His official title at the University of Buckingham is “Professor of Theoretical Medicine.” He’s got 164 articles in PubMed, many of which have awesome titles like “Why are modern scientists so dull? How science selects for perseverance and sociability at the expense of intelligence and creativity.” Of those 164 articles, 62 are in the journal Medical Hypotheses. Oh, did we mention he’s the editor-in-chief of that journal? Yeah, he is.
This guy’s got stuff figured out. So this week is Charlton week on NCBI ROFL, and we’ll be featuring some of his very best work. Enjoy!

~Mer & The Brontosaurus

p.s. Can’t get enough of Charlton? He’s got five–count ‘em, FIVE–blogs:

NCBI ROFL: Get your NCBI ROFL beer stein now!

In celebration of our 100th post (+/- ~3), we’re pleased to announce the grand opening of the NCBI ROFL Cafe Press Shoppe! We have beer steins, stickers, t-shirts, mugs, and more, all emblazoned with the new NCBI ROFL coat of arms. All proceeds (about $2 per item) go to poor grad students (i.e., us).

Is there something else you’d like to see (an NCBI ROFL thong, perhaps)? If so, just email us and we’ll make it happen!
