Terror from the heights

Below is an image that should strike fear into the hearts of all birds, from below and above, evil knows no bounds! On a serious note I was chatting with a friend of mine about the possible hypotheses for the domestication of the dog, and when we moved onto cats he remarked that I’d had it flipped around, it was the cats who domesticated us….

How else do you account for a significant fraction of the population (probably on the order of 0.1) devoting so much care to things that hardly do anything in return? Mousing? Please. Their bugs are in our brains.
As an aside — any data you know of on how many of s-S African origin are cat-lovers? I’ve never known a single black cat-lover. Let’s chalk that up to a preference for more manly pets like dogs, or whatever it is — then this would result in far fewer cat germs getting into their brains. Non-genetic yet biological source of group diffs in personality.

Quite true, and there’s a fully elaborated hypothesis on the topic: The Pliocene Pussy Cat Theory.

it was the cats who domesticated us….
Where I live there are both feral and wild cats. They’re very different. For example:
    1. Feral cats are not afraid of people.
    2. They are different colors.
    3. They are not nocturnal
