Thanks for the nice pictures! I haven’t been tested for it yet, but I believe I was genetically engineered to have an inordinate love for cats! Even if they come up with a cure, I don’t want it! LOL!

I believe I was genetically engineered to have an inordinate love for cats!
More like infected with one of their germs. The instant, bending-over-backwards, and precise nature of our fawning over cats looks more like manipulation of the host by a parasite. No other pet-owners are like this — nothing close.
If it were an a priori property of the person, then why don’t they act that way around anything else — human, cat, or otherwise? The only common denominator is the animal they serve, so a love of cats must come from cats themselves.

Should we tell agnoltic about toy poodle owners?

That is one handsome feline. He (she?) commands my respect.

Toy poodle owners may give off a whiff of cat-owner-level fawning, but I’m unconvinced that it runs as deep. Also, it’s only one (or a few types) of dog that do this — for cat-lovers, the entire species makes us go crazy.

If cat ownership is parasitic maipulation – and it is a good idea to explain a baffling phenomenon! – then one clue would be to check the shared environment (c2) component of cat ownership compared with other animals. It should be higher if childhood exposure to cats results in higher probability of infection.
Personally, I had many cats growing up (and who knows what I was exposed to), but never felt the pull to own in adulthood.
