1) First, a post from the past: Taste & behavior genetics.

2) Weird search query of the week (#5 keyword!): “china provinces”

3) Comment of the week, in response to “What is best in life?”:

You do know that Red Sonja is the third Conan movie?

4) And finally, your weekly fluff fix:

Just the smell of it makes her flinch.

The link to the Taste & behavior page on gnxp actually redirects to the top of your Discover blog. I think there may be and incorrect quotation mark in the underlying html code.

“Race was a significant variable as black children reported far greater preference for high levels of sugar in their cereal. This indicates a strong cultural factor, but, I recall that much of West Africa had a low frequency of the insensitivity that is correlated with lack of craving for sugar, so you might be seeing a gene-environment correlation here as differences in genotypic distribution have had a multiplier effect in shaping cultural culinary habits (though spice is common in black American and apparently much of West African cuisine, so we shouldn’t make much of the high number of PTC/PROP tasters in West Africa).”

Interesting, perhaps it explains the preference of African Americans for Pepsi over Coke but what i’d really like to see is wtf is going on genetically vis-a-vis their hankering for mentholated cigarettes like Newports and Kools. :-)

Is that a Dogfish Head bottle? Aren’t you on the west coast? I mean, DFH is good stuff, but I didn’t think you’d be able to get it out there.

  • TGGP

Have you had the Dogfish Worldwide Stout? Pretty strong stuff. I plan on having some of Three Floyds’ Dark Lord shortly, which I believe is supposed to be even more intense.

  • Razib Khan

yes, u can get dogfish on the west coast :-)
