Facebook dwarfs twitter, so you can’t tell. So with only twitter:

Interesting. Now let’s look with Alexa:

It’s a little more ambiguous using Google Trends estimate of unique visitors:

I don’t necessarily trust Alexa results, they’re mainly tracked by people who install the Alexa toolbar into whichever browser they choose, so the data can be somewhat skewed.

If it hasn’t “peaked” already, shouldn’t we expect it sooner rather then later? I say peaked in quotes because I don’t know how fair it is to compare Twitter to Facebook. Does Twitter’s success and/or popularity have to be measured against Facebook’s?

Twitter, by design, has comparatively less room to grow than Facebook or Google + (at least without changing the core of what twitter is about). It seems as though Facebook and other sites like it try and overtake the entire user experience of the internet, while Twitter seems to still be acting as a facet of internet communication.

Do any of these rankings take into account people who access the site via mobile apps rather than visiting them through a browser?

Weird as I use Twitter much more than Facebook. But that’s probably due to what I’m interested in.
