Puckishly, I will point out that occasional posts about how you severely eliminate the worthless herd commenters and leave only the superior few is also a good strategy for getting your commenters to commit to your blog.

If it makes you feel any better I and many others have spent a lot of time harassing those same bheads commenters right back. Until I got banned! I would bet money I know who it was too. They’re your typical Right Thinking people – so smart they can’t be reasoned with;)

I don’t know how I missed that you had another blog; I’ll check it out. My political views have been changing somewhat, mostly in response to the fact that I now live in France, which is a very different political landscape compared to Canada.

history does not move in one direction. that certain attitudes toward sex, etc., which are closer to 1955 than 1975. there are attitudes toward race which are much closer today to 1700 than 1900. often change needs to be slowed and then reversed.

Not really relevant to the article (sorry), but it did remind me of something I’ve been wondering about – why, exactly, do you identify as a conservative? How do you define that? Conservatism as I understand it is an adherence to tradition, and tradition itself is fleeting as culture itself, doing very little but making inevitable social progress that much slower. I’m not trying to be insulting, here – I really want to know what the upsides are here that I’m not seeing.
