Do either of you have any suggestions to Microsoft OS users in terms of a Virtual Linux or Virtual Mac setup that might work?!

I’ve a fairly new PC and think I could run a virtual box on top of it…

For future googlers, the only thing you need to do to compile on a mac (Mac OS X 10.6.8) is add a single line to the Makefile. Replace:

libnick.a: dirs tables $(OBJ)
ar -r libnick.a $(OBJ)

with

libnick.a: dirs tables $(OBJ)
ar -r libnick.a $(OBJ)
ranlib libnick.a

then make clean and make all. Should compile fine.

It should be possible to get ADMIXTOOLS to run on any UNIX system, though rolloff
requires some modest (for these days) memory. Some code changes would be needed
for Solaris or a Mac, but these should be pretty easy if you know C and Unix well.

If you are running on Microsoft, sorry you are out of luck.

Unfortunately I don’t have a Linux machine. I just installed andLinux just so I use ADMIXTOOLS so I’ll see how that goes, maybe it’ll work maybe not.

I had a look at Patterson, et al and,without studying it very deep, it seems to give a very clear account of the rationale behind these tools. I probably won’t run them myself but I will be a curious and appreciative consumer of other people’s results.
