It requires a certain anti-social doggedness, but if you can tell the rest of the world to go to hell and concentrate on what YOU need to do, you really can boost the left half of that curve. In the early years of my marriage, I had a rule: if my office door is closed, do NOT knock unless it's an emergency. It was rather nasty on my part, but it permitted me to concentrate on getting work done, and I was phenomenally productive during that time. Of course, living in the country helps, too.
