I’m starting to think Glen Beck fans are moving into that “true believer” territory where they won’t be swayed by rationality. I sincerely hope I am wrong, but I’m starting to doubt our ability to pull them back from the edge.

i live in rural america. i see the damage beck wreaks on the critical faculties of the otherwise normal folk i see every day. believe you me, we are well into that territory.

Wow. Not a single example of Glenn Beck’s crimes against smart people.

Trying searching under “Glenn Beck” + “stem cells”, “evolution” or “climate change” and see how long it takes for you to find a reference in which Beck compares scientists to Hitler.

Here’s an example, in which Climate Research = the Holocaust:

BECK: Al Gore’s not going to be rounding up Jews and exterminating them. It is the same tactic, however. The goal is different. The goal is globalization. The goal is global carbon tax. The goal is the United Nations running the world. That is the goal. Back in the 1930s, the goal was get rid of all of the Jews and have one global government.

You got to have an enemy to fight. And when you have an enemy to fight, then you can unite the entire world behind you, and you seize power. That was Hitler’s plan. His enemy: the Jew. Al Gore’s enemy, the U.N.’s enemy: global warming….

Then you get the scientists — eugenics. You get the scientists — global warming. Then you have to discredit the scientists that say, ‘That’s not right.’ And you must silence all dissenting voices. That’s what Hitler did.

Does that not apply to people you disagree with, like Beck? Or have the rules changed?

What exactly (besides advertising a book) is the substantive content here?

You must have seen Jon Stewart's fantastic take-down of Beck (who by his own admission doesn't fact-check) and his scare tactics. It's remarkable that the level of Republican discourse has plunged from William Buckley (who was at least smart and articulate if smooth-talking and obnoxious) to rock-bottom Beck and Limbaugh.

@ cgray: We’ve all seen his show. No one here (ie, intelligent folk) needs to bring up specifics. However, since you “ask,” how about Beck’s attempts to tie the word “empathy” to the Nazis. How about his constantly standing in front of a flag and crying (literally) about how he’s just so afraid for the future of our country when mega-international corporations are “forced” to pay their fair share of the tax load.

Glenn Beck is an embarrassment to the idea of rational discourse. Your instant attack on ‘liberals’ just shows how very uninformed you are about the universal danger a powerful idiot like Beck presents. Conservatives have very important points to make in a rational argument. Fear-mongering, conspiracy theories, and irrational nostalgia (from EITHER side) have no place in that discussion.
