I can bet that Discover has no problem with occasional personal posts, Chris and Sheril could verify this. And it's silly to demand a non-endorsement disclaimer every time Sheril or Chris just say that they like or dislike something. Let's say Chris says "So, I was munching on a tasty snickers bar when I saw this amazing piece of news". Would you expect him to immediately say in parentheses "Oh, and this ain't an endorsement for Mars, Incorporated"? Lighten up.

I don’t know why it’s so hard to remember that this is Sheril and Chris’s personal blog

It's hard to remember because it isn't true. They are employed by Discover to write this blog. Presumably Discover has some sort of standards they have to abide by in order to continue blogging here(Although one wouldn't know it by Mooney and Kirshenbaum's conduct). In no way is it their personal blog. Given that fact, I think that a basic disclaimer of what, if any interest Kirshenbaum has to the sale of this backpack is not asking too much. Of course like I said, That would be for a blogger with a shred of credibility.

-You shouldn’t be so flippant. One of the main reasons that The Intersection has such a huge PR problem in the science blogosphere is that you and Mooney act as though you are beyond reproach

Something about making a mountain out of a molehill comes to mind. I don't know why it's so hard to remember that this is Sheril and Chris's personal blog and it's totally fine if they simply indicate their likes and dislikes on it occasionally.

Ha. Of course not, it was a gift.

You shouldn't be so flippant. One of the main reasons that The Intersection has such a huge PR problem in the science blogosphere is that you and Mooney act as though you are beyond reproach, no matter how many times the facts have come out to show otherwise.

This post looks and smells like an advertisement. You made no disclaimer as to where you acquired it, and for that matter, still haven't. "a gift" simply doesn't cover it. Was it a gift from REI? Discover? Amazon? Uncle Bob? Do you have any connection to the North Face, or companies that sell their wares? Any Blogger with even a smidgin of credibility would make such a disclaimer before posting such a.....oh, wait....I see. I just answered my own question there didn't I? Never mind.

It's generally accepted practice to state where you got the item that you are endorsing. Did you buy it? Did somebody give it to you as a gift? Did North Face give it to you for an endorsement?

I need another pack/bag like I need a hole in the head . . . but you do have a point about being able to carry everything. Good call.
