My freshman class in college had to read it. Needless to say it was pretty good at sorting the nerds from non-nerds. Edward Tufte in "Beautiful Evidence" has a very belated suggestion for Galileo on how he could have made the illustrations of the movement of Jupiter's moons in that book a lot more readable.
