Although I strongly hinted at Planet Earch as a Christmas Present, I had to buy it myself. Another great series, but it points up the inadequacy of my TV.
Good man; good interview.

Ed you lucky, lucky man!
I grew up watching The Living Planet series over and over and over when I was but a little ankle biter! I had the whole series on tape.. I suspect my parents still have it somewhere!
My favourite was the 'Jungle' episode when he climbs up a giant Kapok tree in the south american rain forests to show how much life exists way up there!
Great interview with a great man..

I had no idea who he was when I got the first program by him from Netflix. Afterwards, his name on something meant I'd grab it and watch it right away.
He's not just famous because he entered the field at the right time. He's got the most delightful voice to listen to; he could charm a bird right off a tree. He did in one program; it sort of lost its footing while climbing, fell on him, and he boosted it back up and on its way. If you love nature, you love him-- because his joy in his experiences shines through so well, you almost feel like you're there with him and the amazing animals he shows.

David Attenborough would have to be hot favourite for the greatest communicator that the human race has yet produced. His contribution to the public understanding of the natural world and our place in it is unique and extraordinary.
I am profoundly grateful that my childhood coincided nicely with the start of his colour broadcasting career. 'Life on Earth' was THE highlight of my week at the time it was being broadcast.
Also like to pay tribute to all those who worked with him behind the scenes over all those years, from basic support crew, through to the scientists upon whose work he built his programs.

Long ago, I wrote, only half tongue-in-cheek, that I thought they needed to get Attenborough and his crew to come to the states and look for the Ivory-billed Woodpecker. If you ever talk with him again I'd be curious what his take is on that debate, if he even follows it.
Great interview with a great figure.

What I wouldn't give for 15 minutes with David Attenborough! My only, and it's a very slight, quibble with him is though he did a wonderful documentary, "Life in the Undergrowth", I still believe he should have included at least one species of jumping spiders. Marvelous creatures, very clever. (I'm starting to sound like him!)
Nevertheless, there isn't a single documentary that he has done that I don't enjoy, some more than others, but all have been deeply admired and appreciated. I also appreciate his crediting the biologists and naturalists who have shared the fruits of their incredible labors. I also admire his recognition of the natural photographers who have endured grueling hardships to bring us unique perspectives of wildlife. After Attenborough wildlife filming was perceived as an exciting and admirable profession. Before him it was, "Oh, you work for Mutual of Omaha?"
Everytime I have watched an Attenborough documentary my reaction has been the same: "It's over? Already! Let's watch it again!"
Sir David, I give you my sincerest and most profound thanks.

My favorite of his series' is Lost Worlds, Vanished Lives, in which there are moments of sheer magic. He has done more to further the science of natural history, and the accompanying fields of geology and biology, in ways comprehensible to most people, than anyone else on the planet. Thank you, Sir David, and thank you, Ed, for sharing this interview.
