Herpes may be unpleasant, but the viruses that cause it and related diseases could have a bright side. So it's useful for someting else?

The body continues to do amazing things. I guess the balance of helpful and harmful will always exist. It's always ironic though, that the things we believe are dangerous seem to come back to help in the end (but at a cost). Give some, get some.
Thanks for the post. It was very interesting!

How will anti-HPV/cervical cancer vaccines effect this (Gardasil, Cervarix).
Damn complex immune system.

It should also be noted that high levels of cytokines are what killed 50-100 million people during the World War I Flu Plague. High cytokines aren't necessarily a good thing.

Perhaps it's worth mentioning, in passing, that eating lots of cheese (say 100g/day) and avoiding nuts and peanuts can keep herpes outbreaks away.
There's an interesting story behind how this works, that I haven't found primary sources for, yet. Ed might be able to help.

Pretty interesting article. I hear a lot about chronic inflammation from my chiropractor...this article doesn't really relate to chronic inflammation, but I wonder if raising the "terror alert" for extra years of your life takes a toll on your system. Seems like it must. Not that there's that much we can do about it...
Anyway, couple typos there Ed. You have an "If" where I think you need an "In" and transposed the i and e in hygiene (but managed to get the link right).

I might prefer the plague. I can get antibiotics. . . or am I missing something?
Of course, the punchline would be if your lover gave you BOTH!

Being a total ignorant here so apologies for the dumb question...
What if rather than contracting the condition, mice/apes/"your fave mammalian species" is inoculated against it. Does it make a difference?
