A very interesting article; however, it is not clear if the author really clarifies how the bacteria ‘jumped’ from humans to chickens. Perhaps that is hard to determine.
A reason to ask is that humans have certainly hosted this bacteria for a very long time and why should it have only started affecting chickens 50 years back? Does it have to do with the farming methods?

Good for Australia. I wish there was more stringent regulation on human travel as well.
