When I study just before bed, I'll wake up the next morning with whispers of random words from it... sometimes they'll get mixed up between subjects too, like "25 milliliters of hexadecimal reacts with nematode... zzz"
Another neat thing to try is associating scents with objects/information. I wonder if it would work as well? Perhaps the people who don't respond to sound would respond to another type of sensory input.

You know, it's funny, but when I was studying for exams in college, I made a strange observation. If I studied while listening to music (not exactly Fergilicious, but pop music of some sort) I would often find myself humming the songs later while completing the exam. I don't know if this helped me recall items, or just random coincidence, but I found it strange nonetheless.

Next experiment - do the same but have a song on Repeat while studying and then the same song on Repeat while sleeping next night. See if there is an improvement. Perhaps test a couple of different kinds of music (Moonshine Sonata vs. Fergilicious!?). Now that is something that can be easily put to practical use....
