I grew up south of San Francisco, spent unforgettable days at the Monterey Bay Aquarium as a child, did my fair of wine tasting in Paso Robles while I went to college at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and am now living in Shanghai.
These last two photo journals really brought me back home.
Sounds like you enjoyed the old stompin' grounds; thanks for sharing!

Did you happen to swing through Montana de Oro State Park near Morro Bay? It highlights some of the spectacular California coastline, although there are wonderful spots all up and down Highway 1.

Ah so it is. I was misled by assuming that Anna's all have red heads, when in fact only the adult males do. That's even cooler actually, because I have written about Anna's hummingbird before. It's courtship dive is, for its size, the fastest aerial manoeuvre of any bird, including the peregrine falcon.

If you're still in the area today, I would highly recommend the Madonna Inn in San Luis Obispo, fantastic food in their cafe (especially the cake) and it's just a sight to see the place (don't forget to visit the men's bathroom). Swing dancing every Monday night on their dance floor!

They really are magical if they can fly over a vineyard while sitting eating waffles at the same time!
Amazing creatures anyway.

Lovely shots by both of you. We only have ruby throated hummingbirds in my area and they flew south 3 weeks ago. Sounds like a great vacation.
