I don&#039;t quite understand the system and I&#039;m too lazy to research it, but I suspect that the various state nominations go to a central body which then decides the actual Ozzie of the year.

South Australia is a very worthy and respectable part of the country, but it doesn&#039;t represent the whole place.

I really hope she wins, as a scientist getting up would provide a good ...I was going to say role model, but that doesn&#039;t quite work...maybe just a good example. Science has an ambiguous image in the public mind (though not nearly as contested - hurrah -  as in the US).</description>
