The U.S.-based AAAS Science Journalism Awards have a category for Children's Science News.

I would think one of the first things to learn would be to learn to proofread. The poster is missing a word.

Because nothing says "You're a Loser" [MORE] than owning a poster . . .

Ah well ... with all the texting and tweeting going on, it is inevitable that words, letters, characters will be dropped. Perhaps it was done on purpose.

I have one question about science writing. Where do you get your material? If I'm reading about something in a magazine, or on a blog, I'm already too late. Where do you find the papers you choose to write about?

I was so excited about this until I saw it was only for UK residents! Do you know of any similar contests open to US residents? My particular focus is on science writing for children and I am looking to branch out from textbook writing.

I actually came to a similar conclusion roundabouts my sophomore year after failed attempts at majoring in physics and then botany. I decided that I would rather be writing about science than actually doing it. However, I opted to focus on writing science fiction as a hobby and technical writing as a career. I enjoy what I do, and there is a shortage of people who can comprehend jargon and translate it into Muggle for general audiences out there in the tech world.
