There's a good chance that a process like the ones described above could be responsible for it, or just plain XX/XY mosaicism. It's fascinating either way. Just a shame that the conservatism in science works through in society as well, making life for 'glitches' like myself much harder than it should be. Iain M Banks Culture series used the concept of on (internal) demand sex changes in a couple of his books. My faded memories of those sections seem to recall a period of 6 months that it would take place over, so the scientists aren't doing too bad in confirming Science Fiction, once again :) A case of real life imitating art!
