I have it on good authority that the primary offender of the release of S.marcescens that damages the reef are pleasure craft. Sailboats/powerboats that discharge their sewage overboard while moored in that quiet cove or inlet near shore cause the most damage.

While each boat's wastewater contribution may seem insignificant, the collective wasteload from boats in and out constantly is something that needs to be fixed. These boats NEED to offload in landside holding or treatment systems, but something tells me we will react too late.

I noticed some of the corals in the Keys had some strange circular fungus when I was snorkling a few months ago. Very sad, we're ruining our beautiful oceans!!

Many of the bacteria found in human waste is also found in dogs, including S.marcescens. I wonder if lazy people not picking up after their dogs on the beach contributes to this as well?
