Do the osteoderms have a similiar density as other bones in Rapetosaurus? Perhaps osteoderms allow the load-bearing bones to not be constrained by also having to be sources of calcium. This might allow them to become denser than they would be other wise. Are dense bones with less vasculature stronger?
