Obama Blogs? President-Elect Launches Web Site, Embraces Internet

After running the most technology-dominated presidential campaign in history, it’s only logical that Obama would keep the trend going into his new administration. And by all accounts, he has every intention of doing so: The Washington Post reports that the president-elect and his transition team are gearing up (pun fully intended) to “create the first truly ‘wired’ presidency.”

So far the major cyber-moves include consolidating the list of over 10 million supporter e-mail addresses gathered during the campaign, planning the transition of Obama’s 95-person “new media” campaign staff into an expanded White House operation, and biggest and flashiest of all, the launch of the president-to-be’s official Web site, change.gov. It’s self-billed as “your source for the latest news, events and announcements so that you can follow the setting up of the Obama administration,” and so far it contains a forum to share your election day stories, a newsfeed, and lo and behold, a blog! Take that, anti-blogites—if it’s good enough for Obama, it’s good enough for us.

So is this the era of the blogger-president? Can we expect Web cams in the Oval Office and Twitters from cabinet meetings?

Probably not, but the reality may not be so far off. At least according to Andrew Raseij, founder of TechPresident.com, who told CNN: “I wouldn’t be surprised if Barack Obama starts doing a weekly YouTube video and also fireside chats for the 21st century by allowing people to filter up questions to him that he might answer.”

Sounds great! Now all YouTube (and every other media outlet) needs to do is figure out how to monetize it all.

    Request that the 44th President swear-in on Jan 20th while placing his hand on the Lincoln Bible in which there is a copy of the US Constitution & its amendments. This is only proper because he swears to protect & defend the Constition against all enemies foreign & domestic. Having a copy of the Constitution at the ceremony would also alert everyone that OBama will conduct government business in accordance with Constitutional law & the lawless Bush era has ended.

    I grew up in a very rural community, where any race or creed were seen as nothing but a threat from the outside. At a very early age something inside of me come to realize the contradiction with my beliefs and my ultra conservative southern religious family beliefs. Out of this I became known as a “nigger lover” or a “white nigger boy”. I was the scapegoat for those who were filled with baseless hatred. Somehow it was acceptable to ridicule one of their own to direct their hatred at, so they might not be accused of blatant racial behavior. They turned my beliefs into a “chosen” affliction. At least blacks were “born” that way, but I had “chosen” this belief, so therefore their hatred was even more justified. You might say, I was a boy without a race or sense of belonging. This caused me to lose my love for my family and my belief in God.

    As Barack Obama’s inauguration draws near, I feel a great deal of anxiety mounting. On one hand, I cannot wait for it to happen, but on the other hand I know it’s going to devastate me. Just as I watched the election returns on TV and at 11PM I heard those words that I knew were inevitable but was not prepared for it’s suddenness. All through the campaign I have been amazed as the outcome of this election were being peeled back like an onion. Each layer of revelation I feared it would somehow not be the truth, because it was too good to be true. Any victories would be swiftly followed by a sudden snap back to reality. I fear that once those last words of Obama’s oath have been uttered and I can finally say, “It is done. The dye is cast.” I shall be vindicated and I then may just suffer a breakdown.
