Sculptor Christopher Conte combines his artwork and his experience making prosthetics to create mechanical, science fiction–inspired work with a touch of the dark side.

Conte's robotlike bugs have a distinctly spooky look, conjuring the frequent sci-fi fear about machines becoming self-aware and taking over the planet. “I see insects as being a very possible direction for the world of robotics to be going in, whether they be crawling vehicles or flying aerial drones. You name it.” Thankfully, Conte’s creatures, though somewhat lifelike, stop short of consciousness.
